Abstract
A novel marine bacterium, designated DOKDO 020T, was isolated from the rhizosphere of a marine alga Enteromorpha sp. collected at the Dokdo-Island, East Sea of Korea. The strain produces an white-coloured colony on marine agar 2216. Cells were Gram negative, non- motile, non-gliding, and rod-shaped (0.4-0.5㎛  1.0-2.5㎛). Growth was observed between 19 and 32℃ (optimum 25℃), at pH 7.0-9.0 (optimum 8.0) and in the presence of 1.0-4.0% (optimum 3.0%) sea salt. The strain requires Ca2+ ion in addition to the Na+ ion for growth. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that the isolate belonged to the family Flavobacteriaceae and showed relatively high similarity with Gaetbulibacter saemankumensis (94.7%), but produce a distinct phyletic line. The major respiratory quinone is MK-6. The DNA G+C ratio is 54.0 mol%. On the basis of this polyphasic taxonomical evidence, strain DOKDO 020T should be classified as a novel genus and species in the family Flavobacteriaceae and is proposed as Albumcolonia enteromorphaae gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain is DOKDO 020T (=KCCM 42330T =JCM 14619T).
