Abstract
- An aerobic, Gram-negative, non-motile and yellow-pigmented marine bacterium, designated TJD738T, was isolated from a coral collected in the South Sea, Korea. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that the novel isolate belonged to the family Flavobacteriaceae and showed relatively high sequence similarities with Bizionia paragorgiae (95.5%), Olleya marilimosa (95.4%), members of the genus Lacinutrix (94.2-95.3), “Mesoflavibacter zeaxanthinifaciens” (95.0%) and Psychroserpens mesophilus (95.0%) but formed a distinct phyletic line. Optimal growth occurred in the presence of 2.5-3.5%(w/v) sea salts, at pH 7.5 and at 30 °C. The isolate required Mg2+ ion in addition to the Na+ ion for growth. The dominant fatty acids were i-C15:0, i-C15:0G, i-C15:0 3-OH, i-C16:0 3-OH , i-C17:0 3-OH and SF 3. The DNA G+C content was 29.6 mol%. On the basis of this polyphasic taxonomic evidence, a novel genus and species in the family Flavobacteriaceae, for which the name Corallimonas flavus gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TJD738T (=KCCM 42670T =JCM 14508T).
