Abstract
A mesotrophic bacterium, strain MEBiC 01653T, was isolated from a marine sponge inhabited in the South Sea, Korea. Cells are Gram negative, non-spore forming, non-motile and rod-shaped (0.8-1.4㎛ ´ 0.5-0.6㎛). Growth is observed between 5 and 35℃ (optimum 30℃), at pH 6.0-9.0 (optimum 6.5) and in the presence of 1.6-11.7% (optimum 2.7-3.1%) NaCl. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain MEBiC 01653 T showed high similarity with members of the genera Lacinutrix (96.0-97.1%) and Olleya (96.3%). The isolate required Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions in addition to Na+ ion for growth. The dominant fatty acids were iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1G, iso-C15:0 3-OH and iso-C17:0 3-OH. The major respiratory quinone is MK-6. The DNA G+C content is 34.2 mol%. From this polyphasic taxonomical evidence, strain MEBiC 01653T should be identified as a novel species in the genus Lacinutrix and proposed it as the name Lacinutrix mesophilla sp. nov. The type strain is MEBiC 01653T (=KCCM 42891T =JCM 15599T).
