dc.description.abstract | We examined the spatial variation of surface fCO and its major controlling factors in the western North Pacific and the East China Sea based on surface fCO2, temperature and salinity continuously measured aboard R/V Onnuri in late summer 2006, 2007 and spring 2008. The western north Pacific and the East China Sea were distinguished in fCO2 distribution as well as characteristics of temperature and salinity. Diurnal variation of fCO2 corresponding to the diurnal variations of sea surface temerature (SST) observed in the western North Pacific indicated that SST was a major factor controlling the surface fCO2 distribution. On the contrary, fCO2 distribution in the East China Sea was controlled by many factors such as salinity, primary production and vertical mixing. The western North Pacific acted as a weak CO2 source while the East China Sea acted as a CO2 sink in both summer and spring. | - |
