dc.description.abstract We report our present progress of FEM timestepping model based global ocean tides of which the mesh system has well over 2 million node points and preliminary M2, S2 distributions are presented. This work is a continuation of earlier work of 1/3deg, 5 min FDM based global model. The 2 minute bathymetry was refined over the DBDB2. Re-evaluation of bottom dissipation is being conceived to map the energy balance at major shelf seas. The model will be verified with recent IOC current data inventory bottom mounted ADCP, Ship borne ADCP and moored data. Previously archived offshore TG at well over 100 positions was used. Another attempt to make synoptic tidal prediction over the ocean with direct expression of TGF through the ephemerides of the Sun and Moon. The model with parallelization with partitioning depending on numbers of CPU, overlapping on outer meshes could avoid open boundary problem depicted in earlier work of Kuo (1991) which we believe that present work is several steps ahead of Kuo's work. Preliminary results of work and discussions for further work will be presented. -
