Abstract
- In this paper we will describe an initial test run to create harmonic constants derived from fine mesh system along Korean coastal waters. The set of harmonic constants are computed from tidal analysis of hourly values at nodes over the whole Yellow Sea region from several months' of real time tidal simulations of (Padcirc. This is the same approach which NOAA provides tidal dataset of off Atlantic coasts. Computed constants are then interpolated into gridded dataset. More refined FEM simulations are being performed at NOAA for LIDAR adjustment with vertical reference conversion (VDATUM). Our case done so far was application to Saemangeum and small bays in several locations (Wonpyeong, Gungpyeong, Sihwa Tidal Lake, etc.) and can be extended to coastal flooding simulations. SKKU-1arcseconds land and sea dataset enables time saving of preparing basic inputs although it is also necessary to be refined localized simulation in highly resolved mesh systems. The work is companion work with FDM based realtime tide prediction work being performed parallely.
