Abstract
Seasonal variation of the low salinity intermediate water in the south of sub-polar front of the East Sea was studied by using historical oceanographic data observed by the MMO of JMA and the KORDI. In the south of sub-polar front, salinity on an isopycnal surface (sigma-theta=27.2) varied with seasonally; high in winter and low in summer. The salinity of the Korea Plateau had two maxima in spring and autumn. In the Ulleng Basin, the salinity is changed the same as the Korea Plateau but it was higher than that of the Korea Plateau in all year round. However, near the sub-polar front (Yamato Rise) the salinity was the lowest in spring and then increased with time. In the Yamato Basin, the salinity was the minimum in summer and saltier than the Ulleung Basin. These imply that flow path of the low salinity intermediate water into the two basins is different each other.
