dc.description.abstract Yellow Sea Buoy(hereafter YSBuoy) was moored in the middle of the Yellow Sea in Sep. 2007. YSBuoy is located at 35°51.6’N, 124°34.7’E, about 190 km away from Gunsan, Korea. It is the first 10 m discus buoy in Korea. YSBuoy is equipped with 12 kinds of scientific instruments and producing 20 kinds of observation data. The observation data are transmitted every an hour via Orbcomm system to KORDI. Additionally, vertical profiling system is being planned to be installed in YSBuoy, to measure the vertical structure of the ocean . Vertical profiling system is consist of winch system, temperature/salinity sensor, and buoy vane. The important advantage of the systems is that the operation of vertical profiling systems and the measuring of waves are possible at the same time. In 2009, vertical profiling system was installed in 2.3 m buoy to test and verify the efficiency of the system. As the result, the buoy vane showed good performance with current, but winch system had some trouble by the salt, high waves, and crash. -
