Abstract
One of the most common contaminant of the costal sediments in South Korea is cadmium. The removal of heavy metal by furnace slag has been studied due to the adsorption affinity of heavy metal onto furnace slag. In order to Investigate the effect of salinity, simu-lated sea water (SSW) and deionized water (DIW) were used in the experiment. The removal characteristics of furnace slag against cadmium were evaluated by pseudo-second-order mod-el. Results showed that the rate constant (k2) and initial sorption rate (h) with SSW was lower than those with DIW. And the amount of the cadmium sorbed at equilibrium (qeq) with SSW was higher than those with DIW. The removal rate decreased and qeq increase as increasing the initial cadmium concentration.
