Abstract
A mesotrophic bacterium, strain SPO723T, was isolated from Seaweed collected in tropical area, Chuuk Island, Micronesia. Cells were Gram negative, motile and rod-shaped (1.18-2.24㎛  0.39-0.47㎛). Growth was observed between 15 and 45℃ (optimum 33℃), at pH 6.0-9.5 (optimum 7.5) and in the presence of 0.5-7.0% (optimum 3-3.5%) NaCl. Require sea water or Ca2+, K+ and Mg2+ ions for growth. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain SPO723T was most closely related to the type strain of Nesiotobacter exalbescens (96.5 % similarity), a member of the family Rhodobacteraceae, class Alphaproteobacteria. The major respiratory quinone is Q-10. The DNA G+C contents was 56.7 mol%. The major fatty acids were C16:0, C17:0 , C18 : 17c and C18:0. From this polyphasic taxonomical evidence, strain SPO723T should be identified as a novel species in the genus Nesiotobacter and proposed as the name Nesiotobacter zosterae sp. nov. The type strain is SPO723T (=KCCM42324 T =JCM 14066T).
