Abstract
- COVE (Climate, Oceanographic Variability and Ecosystems) is focused on regional (shelf) to basin scale ecosystem processes and Pacific basin teleconnections. COVE is working with committee chairs and expert groups to identify priority topics and activities for COVE with consideration on the issues of 1) organisms and processes sensitive to perturbations, 2) intrinsic resiliency of ecosystem to pressure and perturbations. COVE is trying to identify the top priorities which can explain representative marine ecosystem process in the Pacific region. In line with that, COVE is struggling to find biological and physical metrics which can track ecosystem changes related with the natural or anthropogenic stressors. A number of prominent researchers are involved in the project “POSEIDON” which can support the selection and identifying of the high priorities associated with changes in the ecosystems in and around Korea. Currently mentioned high priority topics and overlooked potential ecological indicators will be discussed in the meeting.
