Abstract
An article focused on the tsunami induced vortex in the Oarai port duing 2011 East Japan-off Pacific coast earthquake (Derbyshire, 2011). Also similar case can be seen in Imwon port during the 1983 tsunami event. An example of a vortex appearance can be seen when water descends into a drain. This occurs as the revolving mass of water forms a whirlpool. This whirlpool is caused by rapidly flowing water emerging from a small opening in the bottom of a basin. This swirling flow structure within a region of fluid flow opens downward from the water surface. Fig. 1 clearly demonstrates the forming of a local vortex and the ships that were sucked into this vortex inside the breakwaters during the tsunami wave attack of 1983 (Choi et al, 2008).
