Abstract
- Interannual variability of the North Pacific western boundary currents such as Mindano and Kuroshio currents bifurcated from the North Equatorial Current (NEC) as well as Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) transport have been investigated using a coarse resolution global ocean circulation model based on the HYCOM (Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model). The South China Sea ThroughFlow (SCSTF) variability at the Luzon Strait is also analyzed in connection with the ITF transport variability. It is noteworthy that ENSO variability is the most prominent one which is related to the ITF and SCSTF transport interannual variability. Further study plan to understand the dynamics of those Pacific western boundary currents variability in relation with the SCSTF and the ITF as well as their roles on the future climate change are introduced.
