Abstract
- By coupling SWAN and FVCOM, we considered the role of wave induced forces on storm surge and the role of storm surge on the nearshore wave. By complex bathymetry and geometry, the wave-induced forces result in additional up to 0.2m of surge relative to uncoupled surge-only simulation. The effects of wave-induced forces on storm surge enhance the surge height compared to wind stress alone.The increase in coastal sea level by storm surge adds up to 1m to the significant wave height nearshore. The effects of increased water depth by surge on the nearshore wavefield is important. So Wave should not be omitted in typhoon storm surge simulations.
