Abstract
In the Korea Operational Oceanographic System which is an operational forecast system for the Korea waters, a surface drift forecast system has been developed and operated to predict trajectories of floating objects in near real-time, aiming at environmental applications such as search and rescue, oil spills, pollutant dispersion, and etc. However, a surface drift forecast in the ocean remains a challenging work because it is much dependent on complicated interactive processes among surface winds, wind-driven currents, wave actions, and general prevailing circulation. In the present study, thus, we explore to forecast detailed surface drifts from various ensemble techniques which utilize the combination of operational atmospheric, ocean, and wave models.
