Abstract
This study is aimed at demonstrating the importance of appropriate sampling frequency to detect phytoplankton biomass variability in the time. This study twice a weekly investigated phytoplankton biomass at Jang-Mok bay from 04 January 2009 to 30 December 2010. Sampling was completed high tide periods. In the Jang-Mok bay, the peak in chl-a concentration wad recoded during September-October from 2009 to 2010. The chl-a concentration showed similar patterns in surface and bottom waters, excepted in October 2010. When frequency wad decreased to one weekly, the annual succession was well distinguished, but peak values were lost. In an attempt to clarify the importance of temporal sampling resolution at fixed stations on annual primary production estimates. In conclusion, annual trend in phytoplankton biomass cannot be detected reliably without high sampling resolution.2009 to 30 December 2010. Sampling was completed high tide periods.
