Abstract
A mesophilic bacterium, strain MEBiC 07269T, was isolated from a tidal flat sediment and showed 92.2% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with formerly identified as [Cytophaga] fermentans. However, phylogenetic analysis revealed that these two strains affiliated with the family Marinilabilaceae in the Bacteroidia. The strain utilizes wide range of carbohydrates and display phosphatase activities. The dominant fatty acids were branched type and hydroxylated C15:0. The major respiratory quinone is MK-7. The DNA G+C content is 44.2 mol%. From this polyphasic taxonomical evidence, strain MEBiC 07269T should be identified as a novel genus and species in the family Marinilabilaceae and proposed it as the name Saccharivirga mesophilla gen. nov. sp. nov. The type strain is MEBiC 07269T (=KCCM 42978T = JCM18290 T). Additionally [Cytophaga] fermentans was reclassified as Agarothrix fermentans gen. nov. nom. rev.se two strains affiliated with the family Marinilabilaceae in the Bacteroidia.
