Abstract
- Marine microorganisms have been recognized as a new source of novel metabolites with valuable biological properties and molecular diversity. Also, they have evolved with unique metabolic and physiological capabilities to adapt themselves to extreme habitats. They produce potent bioactive compounds that would not be observed from terrestrial microorganisms. In the course of our continuing search for new anti-inflammatory compounds from the marine-derived microorganisms, we isolated new anti-inflammatory compounds from the culture broth of Pseudomonas sp. isolated from a seawater sample collected in Uljin, Gyunbuk Province, Korea. We present here the discovery of anti-inflammatory compounds from a marine-derived bacterium. The isolation, structure determination, and anti-inflammatory activity of the compounds from a marine bacterium will be presented.
