Abstract
In the present study, we suggest that the recent severe cold winters over the east Asia are significantly related with the Artic temperature warming. There is a significant relationship between the temperature increase over the Arctic region and cold anomalies over the Eurasian continent in wintertime, especially the relation is more pronounced in the last decade. It is suggested here that Arctic connection to East Asia is linked to the weakened westerly in the mid-latitude and the blocking ridge around the Ural Mountains. It is also find that the Arctic connection to East Asia is distinctively strong when the Arctic warming is expanded to the whole troposphere, implying the vertical profile of temperature is critical for the downstream teleconnection. In the last decade, the frequency of upper level warming is relatively increased, we suggest that it is caused by the decrease of sea ice over the Arctic region.egion and cold anomalies over the Eurasian continent in wintertime, especially the relation is more pronounced in the last decade.
