Abstract
- In Korea, the study on monogeneans (Platyhelminthes) is limited, although, fishes are frequently encountered with severe infection of flukes or worms. Hence, some of ranched and wild fishes collected from Tongyeong marine living resources research & conservation center, southern part of Korea were screened to study the infection of monogeneans. Three ranched and one wild fish hosts were found with the infection of monogeneans consisting of five genera including seven species from five different families. They are: (1) Anoplodiscus spari (Yamaguti, 1958) (Anoplodiscidae) from the fins and body surface of blackhead seabream Acanthopagrus schlegelii schlegelii (Bleeker) (2) A. tai Ogawa, 1994 from the fins of red seabream Pagrus major (Temminck & Schlegel) (3) Benedenia hoshinai Ogawa, 1984 (Capsalidae) from the fins and body surface of barred knifejaw Oplegnathus fasciatus (Temminck & Schlegel) (4) B. sekii (Yamaguti, 1937), Meserve, 1938 from the body surface of P. major (5) Choricotyle elongata (Goto, 1894) (Diclidophoridae) from the gills of P. major (6) Haliotrema kusafugu Klassen, 1983 (Ancyrocephalidae) from the gills of wild grass puffer Takifugu niphobles (Jordan & Snyder) (7) Udonella fugu Freeman & Ogawa, 2010 (Udonellidae) hyperparasitized on the body of parasitic copepod Pseudocaligus fugu (Yamaguti, 1936) (Caligidae) infecting T. niphobles. All reported monogeneans are hes research & conservation center, southern part of Korea were screened to study the infection of monogeneans.
