Marine microorganisms highlighted as a novel resources for future biotechnology. Competition for bioresources has been intensified due to the ABS in year 2010. Not only acquisition but management of accessed bioresources is very important. The Marine & Extreme Bioresoure Collection (MEBiC) was established as a part of Marine and Extreme Organisms Genomics Research Center program, which have been implemented by the Ministry of Oceans & Fisheries and organized by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology since 2004. Since Jan. 2012 the collection has been authorized as an official marine microorganisms resources bank under the Marine BioResources Bank program. At the time of the end of 2012 the collection retain 6647 marine bacterial strains affiliate with 1159 taxa.
