Abstract
The tidal current is a fundamental information for marine environmental study in the western and southern coasts of the Korea because it is the key controlling factor for the physical properties. Understanding of the general feature on the tidal current in these area is still below our expectation due to some limitations of a current observation. In this study 2,240 current data sets of short-term observation during 25 hours observed by KHOA (Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration) are re-analysed with 337 long-term (30 days) current data sets. Using this method a map of the M2 tidal ellipse can be obtained from the 25 hours current observations. The method can be used for other short-term observation data. The result will give useful information for calibration and verification of water circulation modeling in the Korea coastal areas.the tidal current in these area is still below our expectation due to some limitations of a current observation.
