Abstract
In this study, long-term structural monitoring data such as acceleration, dynamic tilt angle, and static strain for a jacket-type offshore structure are presented. The target structure is a supporting jacket for a tidal current power plant in Uldolmok strait in Korea and it is in operation under severe tidal environment. Due to high-level of tidal current loading and difficulties in construction, it is very important to monitor and maintain structural responses under certain upper and lower acceptance levels. For this purpose, the long-term structural health monitoring system was installed and dynamic and static responses have been being measured after installation. Dynamic responses can give us important information on modal properties such as natural frequencies and modal damping ratios which are related to the structural changes due to damage. The static strain is very important to detect structural changes because the tidal loading is predictable and periodic with a strong bi-directionality, and if there is a significant structural change, it may cause changes in static strain data. However, the environmental effects on modal properties and static strain should be first investigated for successful monitoring by use of dynamic modal properties and strains. Hence, these response quantities for the last two years have been investigated with environmental changes such as temperature and tidal changes, and it is foundin Uldolmok strait in Korea and it is in operation under severe tidal environment.
