Abstract
We applied 1D GOTM-ERSEM to the Ulleung basin (UB) in the southwestern East Sea where primary productivity is relatively high. Experiments with three different stratification structures reveal that vertical mixing plays a crucial role in seasonal variation of the phytoplankton functional groups such as flagellate, pico and dino phytoplankton by controlling nutrient entrainment into the upper ocean from the nutrient-rich deep ocean. However, in case of diatom which is dominant in the UB, the simulated amount was underestimated due to a silicate limitation throughout the year including spring and fall blooms.
