Abstract
Insolation is very important factor in the growth of plants on land and phytoplanktons in the ocean. The GOCI/COMS collects radiance data 8 times with interval of 1 hour during daytime. The hourly GOCI data, with spatial resolution of 500m, is very suitable for study of insolation. We developed a cloud masking method for GOCI imagery by utilizing the threshold of reflectance. The climatologies of reflectance of each GOCI band, which are used as reference in cloud masking, are obtained by harmonic fitting of decad (10 days) time series of reflectance data in the last 3 years (April 2011 to December 2013). The cloud mask data yields spatio-temporal distribution on the cloud frequency and insolation. The insolation in August 2013 was larger than that at the same month of other years. In the same period of August 2013, strong red tides appeared in the south and east coasts of Korea, and strong green tides appeared in the lakes and rivers of South Korea. is very suitable for study of insolation.
