Abstract
Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) are substances used by individuals for personal health or cosmetic reasons and used by agribusiness to enhance growth or health of livestock. Among them, the pharmaceuticals that we take are not entirely absorbed by our bodies, and are excreted and passed into wastewater and surface water. In this study, the transcriptional responses against to exposure of three pain relievers, Diclofenac, Naproxen, and Ibuprofen, in Hydra were evaluated. For all three drugs, the median lethal concentrations of the animals (LC50) were determined. To define the repertoire of Hydra genes responding to acute exposure of three pain relievers, transcriptome dynamics were examined in a series of exposure time (6 h, 24 h and 48 h) by using 17 K Hydra Expressed Gene Microarray (HEGEM) which contains about 17,000 singletons of hydra genes. The gene ontology analysis was carried out for the differentially expressed genes after exposed to the three kinds of pain relievers.e not entirely absorbed by our bodies, and are excreted and passed into wastewater and surface water.
