Abstract
The East/Japan Sea is called a miniature ocean because it shows oceanographic characteristics of the Ocean like the existence of a subpolar front, warm and saline northward currents, deep water formation and active biological processes, but it also receives huge amounts of continental materials including contaminants as well as weathering products. With various trace metals in seawaters, it might be possible to identify the source inputs, the sink and the internal cycling by the biogeochemical processes. We investigated several total dissolvable metals and dissolved metals in the water column on 2001 and 2013, respectively. In the latter cruise, clean sampling system was set up andvertical profiles of easily contaminated metals (Zn, Fe, Pb) were also investigated.1. To understand the source input from the surface & sediments 2. To understand the internal cycling by the biogeochemical & physical processes from the horizontal and vertical distribution of metals.t it also receives huge amounts of continental materials including contaminants as well as weathering products. With various trace metals in seawaters, it might be possible to identify the source inputs, the sink and the internal cycling by the biogeochemical processes. We investigated several total dissolvable metals and dissolved metals in the water column on 2001 and 2013, respectively.
