Abstract
Korea Operational Oceanographic System (KOOS) produces various ocean forecast data that enables fast and accurate countermeasures to such events and in this study, KOOS SAR prediction system that predicts the missing people trajectory. KOOS has been established by the Korea Research Ocean & Development Institute (now renamed the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology: KIOST) to predict the oceanic change and variability of Korea . The KOOS which has a graphical user interface (GUI) provides ocean scientific guidance on Korea coastal waters with 72-hour daily forecast system for marine industries, general public, government agencies, and scientific research communities.The operational search and rescue modeling system is mainly composed of the leeway model as a particle-tracking model, external forcing input from an operational forecasting system (which produces the predicted fields of winds and surface currents). The leeway model, developed by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute,is adopted for search and rescue modeling.
