Abstract
- Ocean wave are getting the spotlight among ocean energy sources as an important one, however, it is very difficult to reach its theoretical energy extraction potential. Because there are limiting factors for practical use in efficiency and economic feasibility of PTO (power take off) system. In this study, the effect of viscous damping for the wave power extracting system proposed by authors (Seo and Park, 2014) was evaluated by hydraulic model tests and numerical simulations. From the comparison of both results, viscous damping was found to be about 5% of the critical damping of the floater, which can be a significant role as the impact of the availability of the system. Consequently, it should be required to minimize the viscous damping so far as possible in order to realize the PTO system based on the resonant channel.economic feasibility of PTO (power take off) system.
