Abstract
The activity concentrations of 210Po were determined in the marine biota of several trophic levels in Korean coastal waters to understand the accumulation in food chain and to assess the effective dose from seafood ingestion in South Korea. Marine biota including phytoplankton, zooplankton, macroalgae, crustaceans, mollusks, surface water fish, bottom water fish and cephalopods were collected in 2014~2015. The activity concentrations of 210Po in phytoplankton and zooplankton were 137±51, 32±4 and 113±2, 47±9 Bq/kg• ww in winter and summer, respectively. The activity concentrations of 210Po in the muscle tissues of squid, abalone, prawn, mackerel and flat fish were 8.6±2.0, 2.9±0.9, 2.8±0.2, 0.8±0.1 and 0.5±0.1 Bq/kg• ww. However, the concentrations of 210Po in the internal organs of these species were two or three order higher than reported in muscle tissues.
