Abstract
- The effect of suspended solid (SS) concentration on survival, oxygen consumption and hematological response of P. olivaceus (35.3 ± 3.4 g mean body weight) were investigated under eight SS concentrations [0 (control), 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 mg/L, respectively]. Survival was not significantly (P>0.05) affected by SS concentration at given experimental conditions. However, OCRs was significantly affected by SS concentration (P<0.05). The OCR increased significantly with an increase in the SS concentration range with from 0 to 80 mg/L (Fig. 1) The mean OCRs of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 mg/L of SS were 59.4, 94.4, 84.9, 90.6, 97.0, 117.0, 103.2 and 133.9 mg kg fish-1 hr-1, respectively. Hematological response was not significantly (P>0.05) affected by SS concentration. The results of this study provide physiological evidence that P. olivaecus exposed to various SS concentrations have significant metabolic response. This result is useful for application of culture management such as water SS concentration for optimum growth of P. olivaceus.60 and 80 mg/L, respectively]. This result is useful for application of culture management such as water SS concentration for optimum growth of P. olivaceus.
