The demands for underwater robots are increasing all around the world as the markets for ocean energy and subsea structures are getting larger. Recently, many countries are trying to secure leading technologies on the underwater robotics, and therefore the competition among the countries is also getting severed. China is known to invest the R&D programs on the underwater robotic aggressively and Korea also has expanded our own technical capabilities through a big R&D project like UCRC(Underwater Construction Robotics Center). In this paper, the technological competitiveness on the underwater robotics among leading countries is analyzed based on the patents and published papers. From the analysis results a direction to strengthen our own competitiveness and the R&D policy of underwater robotics are investigated.nd therefore the competition among the countries is also getting severed.
