Abstract
- Sponges are a rich source of bioactive natural products with significant drug development potential. Marine sponges of the genus Jaspis are known to be a prolific source of different classes of compounds. Among them, jaspamide is a class of natural depsipeptide that was first isolated from the jaspis sp.1 in 1986. To date 18 compounds of jaspamide family have been reported. Jaspamide class compounds are known for insecticidal, antifungal, antimicrofilament and cytotoxic activity. We now report two new jaspamide derivatives, these compounds have been isolated from the tropical sponge Jaspis laingi collected from Kosrae, federated states of micronesia. Two new derivatives are the first linear depsipeptide skeleton in family of jaspamide. Other linear depsipeptide analogue like dolastatin15 have been described.2 Bioassay- guided fractionation of an organic extract of this sponge using LH-20, RP-18 chromatography and HPLC led interestingly to the isolation of a new family of linear depsipeptides. The structures of these new metabolites were determined by combined spectroscopic and chemical methods and comparison with jsapamide.
