Abstract
In recent years, marine natural products bioprospecting has already yielded several new drugs and thousands of novel bioactive compounds. Marine microorganisms represent the greatest biodiversity and percentage of undescribed marine species. Thus, marine microorganisms have attracted considerable attention due to the structural diversities and unique biological activities of their secondary metabolites. The screening of marine microbial natural products continues to represent an important route to the discovery of novel bioactive compounds for the development of new therapeutic agents. In our ongoing research to develop the biomedical potential of marine microorganisms, we have isolated lots of novel bioactive metabolites from marine-derived microorganisms, such as actinomycetes, fungi, and bacteria. This presentation will highlight the importance of marine microorganisms in the drug discovery from marine natural products. The isolation, structure determination, and bioactivities of novel compounds from marine microorganisms will be presented..
