Abstract
Marine microorganisms have received increased attention as a potential source for drug discovery because they produce structurally and functionally diverse bioactive compounds. Among them, marine Bacillus species produce various secondary metabolites including lipopeptides, macrolactones, fatty acids and polyketides. And these compounds have been reported to have a wide range of biological activities, such as antimicrobial, anticancer and anti-inflammatory activities.1 In previous our studies, linear lipopeptides, gageotetrins A-C having noncytotoxic anti-bacterial activities, were isolated from the culture broth of the strain 109GGC020.2 As part of our ongoing study for the discovery of the new compounds, we found three new gageotetrin derivatives from the fermentation broth of the Bacillus subtilis 109GGC020 by chromatographic methods. The structures and stereochemistry of the new derivatives were determined by spectroscopic data and chemical derivatization.
