Abstract
KIOST (Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology) has developed the North Western Pacific Ocean Prediction System(NWP_OPS) as an application of the GFDL MOM5 (Modular Ocean Model Version 5) in a limited area model. The performance of the NWP_OPS has been validated by comparing with observations and other reanalysis. The NWP_OPS well resolves the meso-scale eddy features and western boundary current systems such as the Kuroshio current and Ulleng Warm Eddy and Dok Cold Eddy, and East Korea Warm Current (EKWC) in the East/Japan Sea.
