dc.description.abstract Scuticociliate Miamiensis avidus is regarded as serious pathogens in tank-based aquaculture systems in Korea. It causes mass-mortalities in cultured fish, such as the economically important flounder Paralichthys olivaceus. We investigated the extermination of scuticociliate M. avidus for industrialization of antibiotic-free aquaculture technique for the flounder P. olivaceus. We used natural microorganism Bacillus subtilis for the extermination of scuticociliate M. avidus. The extermination time of the scuticociliate M. avidus with B. subtilis was 1 h at 5 × 105 cells mL-1, 2 h at 3 × 105 and 4 × 105 cells mL-1, and 4 h at 2 × 105 cells mL-1, but they did not die until 64 h at 1.5 × 105 cells mL-1 of B. subtilis. These findings may be useful for removing scuticociliates in land-marine aquaculture systems.he extermination of scuticociliate M. avidus for industrialization of antibiotic-free aquaculture technique for the flounder P. olivaceus.
