Abstract
The second geostationary ocean color imager (GOCI-II), which is scheduled to be launched in 2019, has enhanced sensing capabilities in terms of spectral (13 bands), spatial (250 m ground sampling distance at nadir), and temporal resolution(10 hourly images per day). Compared to its predecessor, GOCI, which has 8 spectral bands (centered at the wavelengths of 412, 443, 490, 555, 660, 680, 745, and 865 nm), GOCI-II is equipped with 5 new spectral bands (380, 510, 620, 709 nm,and one panchromatic band), providing greater resolving power for geophysical variables of water quality (chlorophyll, suspended sediments, and dissolved organic matter), and optical properties (absorption, backscattering, downward diffuseattenuation, and visibility). This study assesses ocean color algorithms for the water quality and the optical properties, by using simulated synthetic data generated for the spectral bands of GOCI-II.
