dc.description.abstract Thalassiosira youngranga sp. nov. is described newly at intertidal zone of Youngrang lake where is a brackish lagoon located at the East Sea of South Korea. The new Thalassiosira species is characterized by (1) fasciculate areolae, (2) a single central fultoportula, (3) one ring of marginal fultoportula, (4) single rimoportula between two marginal fultoportulae, (5) smooth and abruptly curved valve mantle. Morphology of T. yongranga is compared with the close taxa, T. aestivalis, T. nordenskioeldii, and T. pacifica. The distinct feature of new Thalassiosira species are the diminishing of areolae toward valve margin, the angle of border between valve face and mantle, and relatively short tube of marginal fultoportula. -
