Abstract
In the ocean energy research fields, major interests are focused on the development of tidal range, tidal current, wave and ocean thermal energies. Among them, the tidal range energy is already commercialized and other ocean energy systemsare entering the stage of pre-commercialization as a whole. In order to commercialize these ocean energy systems and promote the industrialization, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has been working on the technical committee, TC114 Marine Energy-Wave, tidal and other water current converters, and performs related standardization activities since 2007. As of 2018, a total of eight technical specifications have been published, including terminology and design of systems [1-8]. A total of eight other technical specifications will be published soon, including mechanical load measurement, scaled model test, OTEC, and river current energy converters. This presentation introduces the recent activities and issues of IEC TC114 and introduces the action plan related to international standardization in Korea.
