모리셔스 자연경관에 대한 고찰 - 뜨루 오 셰프 화산 및 블랙리버 지역 지형⋅지질을 중심으로 -

Abstract

모리셔스는 인도양 남위 20° 부근에 위치하는 열점기원의 화산섬으로 화산 활동과 관련된 다양한 자연경관을 보인다. 뜨루 오 셰프 화산 분화구는 주요한 자연경관으로 피트크레이터로 비폭발적 분출로 형성되었다. 주변에는 화도가 자연경관을 이룬다. 모리셔스 중심부에는 북동방향의 현무암 고원이 형성되어 있다. 모리셔스 남서측의 블랙리버 협곡 국립공원에는 이러한 현무암 고원의 침식에 의해 형성된 협곡이 분포하며, 일부는 폭포가 형성되어 샤마렐 폭포와 같은 자연경관을 이룬다. 블랙리버 협곡 국립공원에 있는 세븐칼라어스는 면상침식과 릴침식에 의해, 주변 지역과는 다르게 식생이 전혀 분포하지 않는다. 세븐칼라어스는 인위적인 식생 억제와 지속적인 침식에 의해 형성된 악지로서, 자연적인 지질현상과 인위적인 활동이 결합하여 형성된 독특한 자연경관이다.

Mauritius situated in Indian Ocean, 20°S, was formed by volcanic eruption caused by hot spot rise. Subsequently, it has various natural landscapes related to volcanism. Trou aux Cerfs volcanic crater, one of the most important scenic spot, is featured by pit crater without an explosive eruption. The volcanic vents are located in vicinity of this crater. NE-trending high lands hosted by lava plateau is observed in the center of Mauritius. Black River Gorges National Park in the south western part of Mauritius shows canyons by erosion of basaltic plateau and has waterfalls such like Chamarel fall. Seven-colored earth in the park is characterized by deforestation within a small area. The area, corresponding to a badland, results from the sheet erosion and rill erosion by an artificial deforestation. Seven-colored earth is a unique scenic-spot that has been combined by geological process and human activity.
