The Library of Marine Samples plays an important role as a hub for the supply and recycling of marine research samples, and encourages researchers to advance oceanic studies. The mission of the Library of Marine Samples is to store and manage marine samples collected from various sites around the world, and to promote the secondary usage of these samples in cooperation with global scientific communities. The research samples are managed in four specialized repositories (geological, biological, environmental, and phytoplankton culture) and are catalogued in an Information Management System.

해양시료도서관은 해양연구시료의 공급 허브 및 재활용 연구를 통해 국내 해양과학연구의 국제적 위상을 강화하는 한편, 선진 연구로 도약하고자 하는 비전을 품고 있다. 해양시료도서관은 전 세계 해양연구시료를 안정적으로 확보· 관리하여 국가적인 공동 활용을 극대화함으로써 창의적 연구로 가치를 재창출하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 해양시료도서관에는 지질, 생물, 환경, 식물플랑크톤 배양체 등 목적에 따른 4가지 특수 저장고를 운영하고 있으며, 통합정보 관리시스템을 통해 시료 및 정보를 체계적으로 관리하고 있다.
