Abstract
The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) profiling was carried out in the groups of female gametes of Ecklonia cava to evaluate the effects on global warming in the kelp species. The gametes were exposed to 17°C for 0.5, 1, 3, 5 day (d) in each. A group of male gametes cultured at 15 °C was used as a control. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis was carried out by using the default parameters of DAVID version 6.7 (Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery; https://david.ncifcrf.gov/). In brief, the terms related to cellular lipid metabolic process, organic substance biosynthetic process, protein complex biogenesis, cellular catabolic process, response to acid chemical, protein metabolic process, cellular aromatic compound metabolic process, cellular response to stress, and regulation of macromolecule metabolic process were deduced from the DEGs in the 0.5 d exposed group. For the 1.0 d exposed female gametes, organic acid metabolic process, lipid metabolic process, organic substance biosynthetic process, intracellular signal transduction, cellular aromatic compound metabolic process, and cellular nitrogen compound metabolic process were inferred. Unfortunately, the DEGs obtained in both of the 3.0 d and 5.0 d experimental groups could not hit to the GO term of biological process. However, these DEGs seemed to be related to intracellular membrane-bounded organelle and/ or intracellular organelle of the GO term cellular component. The results will contribute to extend our knowledge in the physiological and/or metabolic changes in the thermal stressed female gametes of kelp species.
