dc.description.abstract Marine natural products are considered as an important source for developing new drugs, since the vast ocean environment provides various novel chemical substances, which are pharmacologically useful. Marine-derived microorganisms, especially the genus Streptomyces, play a vital role in exploitation of new natural products as they produce diverse classes of secondary metabolites with intriguing structures and potent biological activities. The strain 208DD-064 was isolated from a sediment sample, collected off Dokdo, South Korea and identified as Streptomyces zhaozhouensis. A chemical study on the EtOAc extract of the strain led to the isolation of streptopyrrole derivatives. Their structures were determined by MS, 1D and 2D NMR data analyses. All compounds were evaluated for anti-bacterial activity and the result demonstrated streptopyrrole alkaloids inhibit the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. -
