dc.description.abstract In recent years, as experience in marine energy development has been accumulated around the world, efforts to preoccupy technical standards are increasing. Because standards are no longer a regulation, but it is evaluated as a core value that determines the creation of new markets. ISO/IEC Guide 2(2004) defines standards as document, established by consensus and approved by a recognized body, that provides, for common and repeated use, rules, guidelines or characteristics for activities or their results, aimed at the achievement of the optimum degree of order in a given context. Also, standardization is defined as activity of establishing, with regard to actual or potential problems, provisions for common and repeated use, aimed at the achievement of the optimum degree of order in a given context. The Korean government has recognized the need for marine energy development and has established marine energy development plan. The plan includes marine energy certification system and policy support to promote overseas market entry. However, international standards must be applied when developing Korean standards according to the WTO/TBT agreement. International standards for marine energy are developed and managed by IEC TC 114. IEC TC 114 published 16 international standards for marine energy(wave, tidal rivers, and OTEC). Thus, this paper introduces a project on the development of marine energy standards in Korea and ways to link it with marine energy open sea test sites. -
