The functions of up-regulated fibroblast growth factor-11

Abstract

As whale genome is useful marine resource, the study for whale genes provides valuable information to understand the mechanism of human disease and to develop a medicine. The analysis of whale genes revealed that c-terminal of whale FGF11 is extended. Since there are few known functions of FGF11, we began studying the role of FGF11 to know the function of whale-specific FGF11. Today, I will present what we have investigated for the functions of up-regulated FGF11 so far. Further study is required to know the key action mechanism of FGF11 as well as its functions. These studies will help us understand the functions and mechanisms of whale-specific FGF11. And, this knowledge will provide useful information for understanding disease and developing treatments.
