Part 1: Marine biodiversity and its management system in Korea1.Marine biodiversity in Korean waters are relatively high due to diverse habitats and current systems.2.Enactment of a law, ‘Conservation and management of the marine ecosystem’, spurred activities for systematic investigation and management of marine biodiversity.3.Cataloging the marine species and construction of database on the species information is being carried out in Korea. 4.In addition, marine protected areas and species in need of protection are being designated. Part 2: Species identification, use of DNA barcode and microarray1.DNA barcode provides an objective measure for species identification. 2.DNA chips containing species-specific probes of DNA barcode identify each species with a distinctive pattern of spot images.3. The DNA chip will be useful especially for microscopic, mixed samples and also enables a fast, accurate, high throughput identification measures.
