dc.description.abstract Berkeleya fennica is one of the common tube-dwelling diatoms in tidal mudflat of the west coast of Korea, especially during spring season. The Berkeleya is widespread diatom occurred from polar to tropical waters and a major primary producer in the coastal ecosystem. In spite of ecological importance of the diatom, there are a little number of complete mitogenome have been reported, such as Phaeodactylum tricoruntum (NC_016739), Synedra acus (NC_013710), and Thalassiosira pseudonana (NC_007405). In present study, we determined new mitochondrial genome from common diatom in order to improve our understandings on the mitochondrial genetic diversity and evolution of diatom. The complete mitogenome of B. fennica indicates a 35,509 bp circular genome with 29.7% GC content overall and typical bacillariophycean mitochondrial gene arrangement.r in the coastal ecosystem.
