Abstract
A new cyclopoid species of the genus Neocyclops Gurney, 1927 is described. Type specimens were collected from a beach at southwest coast of the Korean Peninsula by rinsing the intertidal coarse sand sediments. Neocyclops n. sp. is most characteristic in showing the conspicuous scars or traces of subdivision near inner margins of coxae of all swimming legs, as its specific name implies. This new species most resembles N. vicinus described from Brazilian coast and N. petkovskii from Australia in sharing large body size (more than 750 μm long), presence of an exopodal seta on antenna, two setae on mandibular palp, the same seta/spine armature of the third endopodal segment of leg 3 (3 setae + 3 spines), and fairly longer inner distal spine on the third endopodal segment of female leg 4. However, N. n. sp. evidently differs from both of them by much shorter caudal rami (less than 1.7 times as long as wide) with quite shorter dorsal caudal seta. Furthermore, N. n. sp. is clearly distinguished from the former by 10-segmented antennule (against 12 segments in N. vicinus), and from the latter by elongate inner distal spine on leg 5 exopod and 3-segmented leg 5 in male (against 4-segmented in N. petkovskii). A table on the character comparison among allied species and a key to Neocyclops species from the Indo-Pacific Ocean are provided.
