dc.description.abstract In order to understand the temporal and spatial distribution of rhizopoda(amoebae and heliozoa) in Masan Bay, we collected samples seasonally at 33 stations during April 2006-February 2007. Heliozoa occurred in all seasons during this study and the abundance was in the range of 0~8.4x103 cells/L (mean 0.82x103 cells/L). Amoebae occurred in winter season only and the abundance was in the range of 0~175.4x103 cells/L (mean 14.0x103 cells/L). The abundance of heliozoa was negatively correlated with DO and pH. While the abundance of amoebae had positive correlations with DO and COD, and had also a significant relationship with chl-a concentrations. This study suggests that in Masan Bay the dissolved oxygen to be an important factor for determining the abundances of heliozoan and amoebae, and the chl-a concentrations to be a potentially important factor determining the abundance of amoebae. -
